The Indus River Valley Civilization By: Claire Tho
The Indus River Valley Civilization is one of the most peaceful civilizations. They existed from 3300 BCE- 1300 BCE and they lived where present day Pakistan is. Their civilization existed for a long time because of where they lived. They settled along the insides of two mountain ranges. The Indus River Valley is bordered by the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea, the Indus River, and the Thar Desert. The Indus Civilization is protected by two mountain ranges called the Himalayas and the Hindu Kush. Today, the Indus River and Arabian Sea still exist in Pakistan. The name Indus River still is heard in Pakistan and throughout the world. The Indus River Valley CIvilization’s main religion is Hinduism. Hinduism is a polytheistic and henotheism religion with devotion to a pantheon god which means all the gods belong to one religion. The Hindus in the Indus RIver Valley Civilization worshiped one main god, the Goddess of Fertility. They believed in this goddess because of a statue found. The Indus Civilization strongly believed in reincarnation and in karma. Reincarnation is when someone dies and returns to the world as a different person or animal. Karma is your faith or destiny. Today in Pakistan, people's main religion is Islam. This is different from The Indus River Valley Civilization religion because they were mostly Hinduism. The same about The Indus River Valley Civilization and Pakistan is even though they don’t share the same religion (Hinduism and Islam), both of the people believed in the same religion as everyone else, like The Indus River Valley Civilization believed in the same beliefs (Hinduism) and Pakistan believes in their country beliefs (Islam). The Indus River Valley CIvilization was known for their writing. The Indus Script is the writing system this civilization developed. This script writing is the earliest form of writing known in the Indian subcontinent. A subcontinent is a large part of a continent. The Indus Scripts were written on pottery, bronze tools, stoneware bangles, bones, shells, ladles, ivory on small tables made of bronze, copper, and steatite. To this day, people still cannot read or understand the Indus Script. As you can see, The Indus River Valley Civilization is a strong and developed civilization. They created their own writing that no one understands, their civilization was rarely attacked, they all believed in one religion (Hinduism) and mostly agreed with the same beliefs of Hinduism. This civilization has lasted for a long time and ended around 1300 B.C.E.
