After reviewing and looking very closely and carefully at the multiple sources given from the primary and secondary sources, Max started the fight but, Julio threw the first punch. To begin with, Max’s parents and Julio’s dad worked together in a corporation. Julio’s dad was the manager of the company and he had to chose to fire some people and unfortunately, both of Max’s parents were fired. Julio was new to the school and Max knew Julio as the person’s dad who put his parents out of the job. They had english class together and the teacher Ms. Lewis noticed that there has been a lot of tension in the school and in the town about the Big Company and who was going to be laid off next. Juan is in english class with Max and Julio and he noticed that when Ms. Lewis wasn’t looking, Max and his friends were saying mean things under his breath about Julio. In the lunch line, Max and his friends were pushing and shoving each other. One of Max’s friends shoved Max which caused Max to bump into Julio. At the point, Julio had it with Max and punched him.
Ms. Lewis was one of the three sources. She is unreliable because she thinks that Max started the fight including throwing the first punch. Max and Julio are also unreliable because since they are the primary sources, they tend to leave out important details about the fight and how it begun. Aliyah is a reliable source because she is Max’s girlfriend and she said that Max didn’t like the new kid. She is reliable because she wouldn’t want to intentionally try and get her boyfriend in trouble. Juan is reliable because he wasn’t at the fight but he is in english class with Julio and Max and he said that while Ms. Lewis wasn’t looking, Max and his friends were being mean and saying things under their breaths about Julio. Julio’s dad mentioned that Julio would never fight anyone unless Julio was provoked. Since Max and his friends have been picking on Julio and then accidentally got shoved into Julio, Julio took it the wrong way so he started beating on Max.
Both of the way the boys handled this issue was unacceptable. They both are punished because Max started the fight but Julio threw the first punch. Max never physically touch Julio until Julio punched Max. Max’s punishment is he has to clean the cafeteria floors and tables for the boys and girls for two weeks. Julio’s punishment is in school suspension for one month and a dean has to follow him wherever he goes. Max is only getting two weeks because he didn’t start the physical fighting but, he did start the actual fight that lead up to the physical fighting. Julio is getting one month with a dean following him because as of now, we can’t trust him not to fight again.
Since it is obvious that Max and Julio can’t get along and probably won’t get along soon, we have to separate the boys. Max and Julio can not eat lunch, be in classes, or go outside with each other. Every Mondays and Wednesdays, Julio will have lunch privileges in the lunchroom and outside. Every Tuesdays and Thursdays, Max will have lunch privileges and outside time, and every other Fridays, the boys will switch off. Every day during electives, Max and Julio will have to go and talk to the dean to try and resolve the continuing issue. I made this decision because they need to gain forgiveness and tolerance but as of now, they can not be trusted to be together.
